This mother protests circumcision. So she says she pierced her baby’s cheek instead.

Ohio mother Enedina Vance was hit with heavy criticism after sharing an extremely controversial photo of her baby’s “new piercing” in order to raise awareness against male circumcision on Jun. 28.
Sharing a photo on Facebook with what appeared to be a cheek piercing on her infant daughter, Vance wrote, “So I got the baby girl’s dimple pierced!! It looks so cute, right?!! I just know she’s gonna love it!! She’ll thank me when she’s older lol If she decides she doesn’t like it, she can just take it out, no big deal.”
She continued, “I’m the parent, she is MY CHILD, I will do whatever I want!! I make all of her decisions until she’s 18, I made her, I own her!! I don’t need anyone’s permission, I think it’s better, cuter, & I prefer her to have her dimple pierced. Its [sic] NOT abuse!! If it was, it would be illegal, but it’s not. People pierce their babies everyday, this is no different.”
After she received intense blowback after sharing the image — which she admitted in a later post was Photoshopped — Vance shared a second update and clarified her position, expressing her disgust that people believed her initial post.
Vance wrote, “I seriously can not believe how many people missed that this was purely satirical, I actually used the hashtag #sarcasm lol yet people were still threatening to beat me to death, call child protective services, & take away my children lol.”
Vance noted that she’s “glad” that people responded with outrage at the idea that a mother would pierce her child’s cheek, but “disappointed” that those outraged by the photo didn’t see the correlation she was trying to make with male circumcision, which she referred to as “genital cutting.”
“Others dismissed the connection between the dimple piercing & genital cutting & felt it necessary to attempt to explain why they cut their child,” Vance wrote. “Its ironic that they were ready to beat me to death over my excuses for piercing my baby, but then they used the same EXACT excuse to justify cutting their baby.”
Calling those who were against her baby’s Photoshopped piercing but for male circumcision “hypocritical,” she asked, “How is it so triggering, so enraging to see my baby with a pierced dimple, but actually knowing a baby is being strapped down & forcibly having his most sensitive & innervative [sic] portion of his penis amputated, seems perfectly ok??”
Vance then embarked on a tirade against male circumcision, and called those who are proponents of the act “hypocrites.”
“Hypocrisy, that’s what that is,” she wrote. “Sexism. Superstition. Fear. People would rather continue to inflict an unnecessary & irreversible ritual onto their defenseless infant, than to have to admit that they don’t know.”
She concluded, “Its [sic] NOT cleaner, not healthier, & definitely does not look better!! But most importantly, it is NOT your body to alter or modify for aesthetic purposes.”
