Shocking Dallas billboard targets black women, tells them abortions are ‘self-care’

Pro-life advocates are fuming over a new billboard along a Dallas highway that suggests black women should choose abortion because it’s “self-care.”

What does it say?

“Black women take care of their families by taking care of themselves,” the billboard states. “Abortion is self-care.”
The billboard is sponsored by a Dallas-based group called The Afiya Center. The center’s website states it is “Transforming the Lives of Black Women & Girls.”
Also according to its website, “Our mission is to serve Black women and girls by transforming their relationship with their sexual and reproductive health through addressing the consequences of reproduction oppression.”
An Afiya Center representative told CBN News the billboard was put up on Monday.
Pro-life advocates vented their anger about the ad by commenting about it on social media.

What are people saying?

“The abortion war against black women is so real,” former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson said on Facebook. “This is on a billboard in Dallas.”
Abortion statistics in the black community are high, and conservatives point to Margaret Sanger for pushing that agenda. Sanger is the founder of Planned Parenthood, which became the nation’s largest abortion provider.
According to Right to Life Michigan, the abortion rate for black women is almost four times that of white women in the U.S.
“On average, 900 Black babies are aborted every day in the United States. This tragedy continues to impact the population levels of African-Americans in the United States,” the Right to Life Michigan website states. It also points out that more than 19 million Black babies have been aborted since the 1973 Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision made abortion legal.
Other stats:
  • 36 percent of all abortions in the U.S. in 2014 were performed on black women, however, yet just 13.3 percent of the total population is black.
  • For every 1,000 live births, non-Hispanic black women had 391 abortions. For non-Hispanic white women, the rate was 120 abortions for every 1,000 live births.
“So for BLACK women, killing our offspring is like a day at the spa,” radio host Stacy Washington wrote on Twitter. “They don’t market this way to any other group. @PlannedParenthood still operating on behalf of Margaret Sanger.”
Jennifer Bukowsky, a criminal defense attorney, wrote:
“#TrustBlackWomen to do what? Fail to use birth control? Kill black babies? What a sick billboard.
