Ultrasound company employee leaves nasty voicemail for patient. Now she’s looking for work.

An employee for an ultrasound company inadvertently left a message on a Massachusetts woman’s phone complaining about why that woman should not have children.

Here’s what happened

Alicia and John Kravitz are expecting their first child. Her doctor asked her to schedule an appointment with Premier Ultrasound Services in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, to make sure that her baby was healthy. An employee from Premier Ultrasound called Alicia Kravitz and left a brief message asking Alicia to call back so that they could figure out a time for her to come in.

After she thanked Alicia, that employee evidently assumed that the call had ended. But Alicia could still hear her talking.

“Why the (expletive) are these people getting pregnant? Autistic, ADHD, prosthetic eye — getting pregnant,” the employee said, not realizing that her words were still being recorded.

Alicia said that those comments were deeply hurtful.

“Essentially, her telling me I shouldn’t be having children with my diagnoses,” Alicia said. “How can somebody say that about somebody they never met before? How can you make that kind of a judgment about what kind of person somebody is without ever meeting them?”

When Alicia told her husband John, he was furious.

What did the husband do?

“I was mad,” he told WBZ-TV. “I left work as soon as I heard about it. Ran, grabbed her phone, and went down there to confront her [the employee]. I was not happy. And the way she handled it was completely irresponsible. It was ridiculous.”

John managed to talk to the employee who had left the message, but she refused to let him talk to her manager. Instead, she called Alicia back and left a second voicemail:

Oh hi Alicia, it’s Premier Diagnostics. Your husband was just in. I apologize for the voicemail earlier I was just commenting to a co-worker about the chart which we do many times. We would love to have you come in, hopefully tomorrow. So if you could give me a call back, thank you.

Not surprisingly, this second voicemail was not enough for the Kravitz family. They reached out to WBZ, the local CBS affiliate. After being contacted by the news team, Premiere Ultrasound Services fired the employee and sent a letter to the remaining employees that stated, “Premier expects every employee to adhere to the highest standards of job performance and personal conduct. Any employee unable or unwilling to adhere to these standards should find other employment.”
