Suspect breaks into crowded liquor store, starts shooting. He apparently doesn’t expect off-duty cop — or death.

A robbery suspect broke into a Stone Mountain, Georgia, liquor store on New Year's Eve — and he didn't leave alive, courtesy of an off-duty police officer acting as a security guard.

What are the details?

According to WSB-TV, the guard, an off-duty Pine Lake police officer, was present when an unidentified suspect entered the liquor store brandishing a gun.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. local time when the suspect — who was wearing a bandanna over his face — entered the store and fired an apparent warning shot.
Ture Ayanno, a store employee, told the station that he was working behind the counter when the armed suspect barged in.
The incident was caught on the store's surveillance camera.

Many customers inside the store immediately ducked and dropped when they heard the suspect's shot.
"I'm behind the cash register helping a customer out. Guy comes in, points a gun at me, says, 'Everybody get down,'" Ayanno recalled.
Immediately, the off-duty police officer intervened and immediately fired at the suspect.
Ayanno said that he didn't think the suspect even finished making his demands before the officer's bullet hit him.
Injured, the suspect turned and ran back out of the store's front door. He collapsed there and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No one else was injured during the incident.
Elias Gabo, the store's owner, told the station that he's grateful for the way things turned out.
"That's why we hire the officers to protect the customers," Gabo said. "Very thankful. Could have been much worse."

"Definitely saved us from a lot of casualties, and we're thankful for that," Ayanno added.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
