'Angry White Male Studies' course to be offered at major college next fall — and one US congressman made it clear he doesn't like it

The University of Kansas is offering a course titled, "Angry White Male Studies," next fall — which will explore "the deeper sources of this emotional state while evaluating recent manifestations of male anger" in America and Britain since the 1950s — and one U.S. congressman isn't happy about it.

HUM 365 also will look at "how both dominant and subordinate masculinities are represented and experienced in cultures undergoing periods of rapid change connected to modernity as well as to rights-based movements of women, people of color, homosexuals, and trans individuals."

Campus Reform said it reached out to Christopher Forth, the professor of the course, and to KU for comment but did not hear back in time for publishing.

One US congressman isn't pleased

Upon hearing the news about the course, Republican U.S. Rep. Ron Estes (Kansas) made his displeasure known on Twitter:

"Instead of a course to unite people and empower women, KU has decided to offer a class that divides the student population and could pose a Title IX violation by creating a hostile campus environment based on gender," Estes wrote.

Title IX prohibits programs receiving federal aid from discrimination on the basis of sex.
Campus Reform said the University of Kansas received $148,178,000 in federal research funding in 2017.
The school didn't respond to a request for comment on Estes' tweet in time for publication, the outlet added.
