Makeup artist speaks out after bride refuses to hire her because she's gay: 'Homophobia is a real issue'

A bride decided not to hire a freelance hair and makeup artist located in Lubbock, Texas, after she discovered the makeup artist was gay by looking through her social media posts. Kristian Cardenas, who runs Makeup & Hair by Kristian, shared screenshots of the interaction on Twitter.
On June 12, Cardenas received a text from a bride, who was interested in hiring her to do her makeup for her wedding day, at the recommendation of a friend. After sending the unnamed bride her information, including her prices and a link to her Facebook page, the bride asked if she could ask her a few questions.
“Yes ma’am, what are they?” Cardenas responded.
“Are you gay?” the potential customer texted.
Cardenas replied that she was, and asked, “But what does that have to do with your wedding or my services?”
The bride wrote: “Oh I don’t want a gay person doing my wedding. I saw your FB and I couldn’t tell if you [were] or weren’t gay.”
Instead of responding with hatred or anger, Cardenas calmly told the woman it was “totally fine” and wished her a nice day.
But the bride continued: “How can you be Latina and gay? You do know being gay is a sin correct. I will pray for you my friend. I’m sorry that you’ve chosen a path that’s going to send you straight to hell. I think you do beautiful makeup but I just can’t have someone who’s gay being apart of my special day. The wedding is in a church and I don’t want you walking into my church. If you at any chance change your mind about being gay let me know please so I can book you.”
Cardenas shared on social media: “Openly sharing who I am with the world is my choice; a choice I will never apologize for. I love what I do and who I am. Homophobia is real, and with it being pride month I feel like that comments get worse... Please be kind to everyone. If someone doesn’t have the same views as you, opinions, or whatever it may be just respect them. Don’t hate them for being different.”
People on social media not only responded with shock over the bride’s blatantly homophobic views, but also commend well Cardenas handled the situation.
