Watch: Deputy's video shows rescue of newborn baby abandoned in Georgia woods

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office in Georgia has released body camera footage from a deputy, showing the rescue of a newborn baby girl who was found alive in a wooded area earlier this month.

The infant, who has been temporarily named "Baby India," was tied in a plastic shopping bag — with her umbilical cord still attached — and abandoned.

ABC News reported that the newborn was discovered by the Ragatz family, after sisters Kyler and Kayla summoned their parents and grabbed flashlights to investigate a sound they heard in the dark outside their home. Upon finding Baby India, Kyler later recalled, she "started bawling...it was just so emotional." She added, "I was angry, scared, sad."

The Ragatzs called 911, and Sheriff's Deputy Terry Roper was the first officer to respond to the scene. He told "Good Morning America" when he saw Baby India, "I wanted to give her comfort. A little bit later I realized it was the first time she had felt love, and I felt honored to be able to give her that."

Baby India was found on June 6, but FCSO released part of Deputy Roper's body camera footage on Tuesday in hopes of finding out the little girl's identity. Anyone with tips is encouraged to call 770-888-7308.

In the meantime, the sheriff's office says Baby India is healthy and safe. In conjunction with making the video public, FCSO released a statement saying, 'We are happy to report that Baby India is thriving and is in the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services," CBS News reported.
