At least 6 Philadelphia police officers wounded during 'active firefight'

At least six Philadelphia police officers have been wounded in an active firefight in the city on Wednesday, after a suspect opened fire as narcotics officers attempted to serve a warrant in the Nicetown neighborhood. Two officers have reportedly been rescued by a SWAT team after engaged in an extended battle with a second gunman, who allegedly livestreamed the incident on Facebook.

What are the details?

According to the Daily Mail, six officers were shot during a drug raid, and another was injured in a car accident en route to the scene. All of the officers have been transported to local hospitals and all are expected to survive.

Fox News reported that one suspect has been taken into custody, and Breaking News Live reported that officers remained in an active firefight with a second suspect for hours. A lockdown on the area was issued and a SWAT team, hostage negotiators, and multiple agencies responded to the scene.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley told reporters that President Donald Trump has been made aware of the situation, saying, "The President has been briefed on the shooting in Philadelphia and continues to monitor the situation."
