BREAKING, Shooting At Historical Black College, Injuries Reported

Four students have been shot at a block party near Clark Atlanta University and the shooter is still at large and being sought by police.

The shooting happened at around 10:30 pm on Tuesday and four girls, aged 17 – 19, were caught in the gunfire, WSBTV reported.

Police said when officers arrived, they found four female students, ages 17 through 19, with injuries. They were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and are listed as stable.

The location was on the steps of a library used by Clark Atlanta University, Spelman and Morehouse students.

“It appears there were two separate groups that were targeting each other and the students in the crossfire,” Atlanta Police Capt. William Rucker said.

Samone Wright, a freshman, said she decided not to go to the party as it occurred the day before he classes began.

“I was telling my roommates, I was like, ‘Ya’ll, its class tomorrow let’s stay in.’ Thank God I was taking forever to get dressed right after it happened,” she said.

The block party was for students at three historically, and predominately, black colleges including Morehouse and Spelman, CBS 46 reported.

Police said two of the students are enrolled in Spelman College and two are enrolled in Clark Atlanta University. Their identities have not been released.

Atlanta Police reported the students were shot in front of the Robert W. Woodruff Library located near the intersection of Beckwith Street and James P. Brawley Drive SW around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to Atlanta Police, a large group of people were partying before the start of the semester and the suspect or suspects were believed to be a part of the group. Police believe that two groups targeted each other.
