El Paso man who lost wife in massacre gifted a new car after his is stolen: 'The love of God has no borders'

An El Paso man lost his wife in the recent mass murder, and the community rallied around him to attend her funeral because he had no living family.

After the funeral, however, Antonio Basco faced more misfortune: His car was stolen, and in it was the pressure washer he uses for his job as a mobile car washer. Once again, El Paso came to his aid.
A dealership in El Paso, Casa Ford, gave Basco a brand-new Ford EscapeSUV and a trailer Monday, aided by nearly $5,000 in donations from the community. The dealership livestreamed the occasion.
"You don't just have El Paso standing behind you. You have the whole world standing behind you," an employee told Basco.
In addition, an anonymous donor gifted Basco a new pressure washer so his ability to do his job would not be interrupted.
The gift is just another example of how the city of El Paso has responded to the unthinkable tragedy of a gunman killing 22 people, opening fire at a Walmart during a busy back-to-school shopping day.
When residents found out that Basco did not have any family to attend the funeral for his wife, Margie Reckard, thousands of people responded and attended, leading to a half-mile long line of well-wishers seeking to enter the funeral service to say goodbye to Reckard and comfort Basco.
"It was important for me that the last thing people heard about El Paso not be about a shooting that took 22 lives," said Shekeilia Rambus, who attended the funeral, according to BuzzFeed News. "Let it be that the community showed up for someone who needed us to stand with him."
