Four dead in brutal knife attack in Southern California: 'We know this guy was full of anger'

A Southern California man reportedly stabbed and killed four people Wednesday during a two-hour stretch of violence that also included several robberies and other assaults, according to The Associated Press.

The 33-year-old suspect has been arrested but not publicly identified by police. He was arrested in Santa Ana, California, at a convenience store shortly after allegedly killing a security guard and taking his gun.

Police believe the motive for the killings was nothing more than "robbery, hate, homicide." He seemingly chose victims at random. The suspect and all his victims were Hispanic.

"These are all random acts of violence, our suspect was not connected with any of our victims," Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney said, according to the Orange County Register.

The murders began in Garden Grove, where the suspect lived. He reportedly stabbed two men at his apartment complex during a confrontation, one of whom died in an apartment and the other died later at the hospital.

The suspect then robbed a baker at around 4 p.m., authorities said. The owner, who was at the bakery at the time, said the suspect drove up, went straight to the cash register, and flashed his gun. The owner believes he mistook her for a customer.
He allegedly went on to rob an insurance business, stabbing one employee in the process. The employee is expected to survive her injuries.

Next was a reported robbery at a check-cashing business next door. After that, the suspect apparently attacked a man who was pumping gas at a Chevron station, stabbing him in the back of the head and nearly severing his nose from his face. He was helped by onlookers and survived.

Police tracked the suspect's vehicle and found him at a 7-Eleven store in Santa Ana, arresting him as he exited the store. The suspect was carrying a large knife and the gun he allegedly stole from a security guard that he followed into the store, stabbed several times and killed.

The suspect also robbed a nearby Subway restaurant and killed a male employee, authorities said.

"We know this guy was full of anger and he harmed a lot of people tonight," Whitney said.
