Ilhan Omar breaks silence on bizarre marriage accusations — and she did it in a tweet
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) broke her silence Wednesday on accusations that she had once married her brother in order to elude immigration law, and she did it in a tweet.
Omar was commenting on controversial comments from Rep. Steve King (R-Texas) about the role of incest and rape in shaping historical population growth.
"Gross!" Omar tweeted. "This would explain why these weirdos are fixed on smearing me with claims of incest."

"Projecting their filth, unreal," she added.
King was offering a defense of the policy against rape and incest exceptions for abortion, saying that much of the population of the world would not exist if not for children being born from incest and rape.
"What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled those people out that were products of rape and incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?" he said to the Westside Conservative Club.
"Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages taken place and whatever happened to culture after society? I know I can't certify that I'm not a part of a product of that," he added.
Omar took the narrative being spread in the mainstream media that King was simply defending incest and rape, rather than defending his anti-abortion bill that would protect the lives of children born from rape and incest.
She had denied rumors in 2016 that she had married her brother, but was noticeably silent in the wake of new evidence published by the Star Tribune.
The issue, she said in 2016, was "a difficult part of my personal history that I did not consider relevant in the context of a political campaign."
She added that the rumor was "absurd and offensive."
