Shaun King Falsely Linked White Man To Murder Of Black Girl. Man Commits Suicide In Prison.
"Robert Paul Cantrell, 49, was found by staff at the Montgomery County Jail early on Tuesday, July 23. He was hanged in an apparent suicide. Staff tried to revive him and perform CPR, but all life-saving attempts were unsuccessful," a Houston-area ABC affiliate reported Monday. “Cantrell was in jail on a charge of robbery-evading.”
In April, King wrongly connected Cantrell to the tragic murder of seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes, who is black. King predictably claimed racial malice. The Daily Wire reported at the time:
In a now-deleted post, King asked his followers, "What more can you tell me about Robert Cantrell? ... We've had 20 people call or email us and tell us he is a racist, violent a**hole and always has been. Just tell me everything you know."
Cantrell's family, as noted by The Daily Wire, was immediately flooded with threats.
King apparently linked Cantrell to the killing after Jazmine's mother initially suggested the attack was racially motivated. Jazmine was murdered in a Wal-Mart parking lot while she was with her mother and other relatives.
Cantrell was quickly dismissed as a person of interest and Eric Black and Larry Woodruffe, who are both black, were later charged with capital murder for the killing of young Jazmine. The murder was allegedly a gang-related identity mix-up.
King has a history of posting inflammatory tweets to his massive Twitter audience and later deleting them without repercussion.
Earlier this month, the activist praised a self-identified far-left Antifa member who tried to attack an immigration detention center in Tacoma, Washington. The activist seemingly encouraged more violent attacks, lionizing the armed attacker, whom The Daily Wire will not name, as "the first martyr attempting to liberate imprisoned refugees."
"[Name] just became the first martyr attempting to liberate imprisoned refugees from a for-profit detention center in Tacoma, Washington," posted King in a soon-to-be deleted tweet. "His hero was John Brown — the white abolitionist who led the raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859. This is what our country has come to."
He also called the unsuccessful terrorist's "manifesto" "a beautiful, painful, devastating letter."
"We are told that this is the final letter of [name] — who was shot and killed by law enforcement as he attempted an attack on a for-profit refugee detention center in Tacoma, Washington," he wrote. "It's a beautiful, painful, devastating letter."
The attack "wasn't crazy," contended King in another now-deleted tweet, noting that "inaction is."
King has yet to comment on Cantrell's suicide.
According to the ABC affiliate, "Cantrell's cause of death is under investigation and is pending autopsy/toxicology reports."
