Triggering On A New Level: Video Of Democratic Socialists Of America Convention Goes Viral

The "triggering" hit new levels during the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) National Convention in Georgia this past weekend. In leaked clips of the event, Democratic Socialists lash out at each other for various offenses, such as using "gendered language" and "whispering." Adding to the bizarre nature of the event, which comes off as a satirical skit being laid on a bit too thick, members of DSA whine about what triggers them by first announcing a "point of personal privilege."

"Uh, quick point of privilege, quick point of personal privilege, um guys — first of all, James Jackson, Sacramento, he/him," a man from the convention interrupts in one of the viral clips. "I just want to say, can we please keep the chatter to the minimum? I'm one of the people who's very, very prone to sensory overload. There’s a lot of whispering and chattering going on. It's making it very difficult for me to focus. Please, I know we're all fresh and ready to go, but can we please just keep the chatter to a minimum? It's affecting my ability to focus. Thank you."
The chair answers, "Thank you, comrade."
The peace was short-lived, however. A loud angry male voice chimes in, "Point of personal privilege! Point of personal privilege! Please do not use gendered language to address everyone!"
"Okay," the chair responds weakly.

In another clip of the event, "James Jackson, Sacramento, He/Him" is back for more complaining, and he's more annoyed than ever by the un-comradely actions of his peers.

"Quick point of privilege once again!" he interrupts. "Hi, James Jackson, Sacramento, DSA, he/him."
"I have already asked people to be mindful of the chatter of their comrades who are sensitive to sensory overload. And that goes double for the heckling and the hissing. It is also triggering to my anxiety. Like, being comradely isn't just for like, you know, let’s keep things civil or whatever. It's so people aren't going to get triggered, and so that it doesn't affect their performance as a delegate. Okay? Your need to express yourself is important, but you need to express yourself should not trump [my needs]."

Aside from no whispering and no gendered language, there were a slew of other rules assigned to DSA members. In a clip from the start of the convention, one of the leaders barred "aggressive scents" from "quiet rooms" and directed his peers to "try to be chill" and avoid talking to cops "for any reason at all" and "MAGA a**holes." Also, their sense of charity was iconically meant to be tamed: no letting in your left-wing pals!

Democratic Socialists of America convention rules:

🔴 No “aggressive scents” in the quiet room
🔴 No misuse of doors
🔴 No interacting with cops
🔴 No talking to the press

I’m sorry, I thought this was America.
