Washington Post Publishes Another Vague, Thinly Sourced Smear Against Trump, And The Media Runs Wild

The mainstream media is running with yet another story that will supposedly end President Donald Trump’s administration.
On Wednesday, The Washington Post reported front-page news with the headline, “Trump’s communications with foreign leader are part of whistleblower complaint that spurred standoff between spy chief and Congress, former officials say.”
The sources for the article, as with seemingly every article that is intended to hurt Trump, are anonymous. The Post spoke to “two former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.” These officials were “speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.”
So right off the bat, this is actually a story about someone leaking a conversation between the president of the United States and another world leader. The Post article offers nothing in the way of proof of what awful thing Trump supposedly “promised” this world leader, or which world leader received the “promise.”
The meat of the story, then, was filled out with the “standoff” between the Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire and Congress. Because the Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson, according to the Post, determined the whistleblower complaint was of “urgent concern,” congressional oversight committees were supposed to be informed. Maguire did not turn over the complaint, prompting House Democrats to threaten to pull him in for testimony.
The vague but supposedly incriminating story led to wild speculation from the Post and other left-leaning outlets. The Post outlined every call Trump had with a world leader since June 11 with particular emphasis on Russian officials and North Korean dictator Kim Jon Un.

Trump called the Post’s story “Fake News,” adding that “Virtually anytime I speak on the phone to a foreign leader, I understand that there may be many people listening from various U.S. agencies, not to mention those from the other country itself.”
He continued: “Knowing all of this, is anybody dumb enough to believe that I would say something inappropriate with a foreign leader while on such a potentially ‘heavily populated’ call. I would only do what is right anyway, and only do good for the USA!”

Thursday evening, the Post published another story reporting the communications involved with Ukraine. The Post eagerly reported that Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25 and that “for a host of reasons — and depending on the substance of the complaint — it could spell real trouble for Trump and his supporters.”
The Post and others then centered around Ukraine’s potential investigations into former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter. As The Daily Wire previously reported, Joe Biden bullied Ukraine into firing a prosecutor that was investigating the company that employed his son Hunter.
Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, has not helped the president regarding the Post story. Giuliani appeared on CNN Thursday night and said that he had not asked Ukrainian officials to investigate Biden, before saying a few seconds later that he did. Giuliani made the distinction between asking Ukraine to investigate “allegations that related to my client, which tangentially involved Joe Biden in a massive bribery scheme” and asking them to investigate Biden’s role in getting the prosecutor fired.
Still, none of this currently relates to the whistleblower complaint. Perhaps this is what the complaint has to do with, and maybe not. Maybe it’s yet another hyped up story for left-wing outlets that isn’t nearly as salacious as reported.
