WATCH: Adam Schiff confronted for putting words in President Trump's mouth in fake 'parody'

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) chose to put words in President Donald Trump's mouth last week to further his version of events of what he believes Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the Biden's in July.

On Sunday, ABC host George Stephanopoulos confronted Schiff over his "parody," which led to widespread backlash.

"If the facts are as damning as you say why make up dialogue for dramatic effect, even if it's a parody as you say?" Stephanopoulos asked.

Schiff, however, dodged the question and attacked the president.

"Well George, you're right. The call speaks for itself and it is plenty damning," Schiff responded.

"But let's not pretend that this is really what the president is upset with me about," he continued. "I can tell you exactly why the president is furious with me, and that is because when I learned that a whistleblower had filed a credible and urgent complaint that was being withheld from Congress — and no one in the country knew about this yet — I went public to demand that we get that complaint."

In his opening remarks at last Thursday's House Intelligence Committee hearing that featured testimony from Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, Schiff created a fictional version of the conversation between Trump and Zelensky that did not accurately portray the call notes the White House had released. 

Schiff was later criticized during the hearing for offering what he characterized as a "parody" and said "the fact that that's not clear is a separate problem in and of itself."

In response, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), the newly elected leader of the House Freedom Caucus, introduced a resolution to censure Schiff for his "egregiously false and fabricated retelling" that "had no relationship to the call itself."
