Ilhan Omar Breaks From Squad To Attend SOTU: ‘My Presence Tonight Is Resistance’

Breaking from the ranks of fellow members of the so-called “squad,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) announced Tuesday evening that she will be in attendance during President Donald Trump’s annual State of the Union address, set for Tuesday night.
However, Omar’s presence will be an act of “resistance,” she claimed.
“It’s no secret that this president has routinely targeted religious and ethnic minorities. He has fanned the flames of hate against refugees, Muslims, Africans, immigrants, women and all racial and religious minorities,” the Democrat said in a Twitter thread posted Tuesday.
“He is routinely and openly hostile to any legitimate Congressional oversight. He has made clear his wanton corruption by soliciting a bribe from a foreign government for his personal political gain,” Omar continued.
“His partisans in the Senate are placing their personal interests ahead of the country by blocking a fair trial on his conduct,” the Democrat said. “This impeached president is not legitimate.”
Omar concluded: “I am attending tonight’s address not to confer any legitimacy on his actions, his statements, or his presidency. I am attending on behalf of all of those targeted by this President to say, ‘We are greater than hate.’”

As reported by The Daily Wire, at least eight House Democrats have announced that they will be boycotting Trump’s SOTU address.
According to reports from The Hill and Axios, the following Democrats will not attend the address:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA)
Rep. Al Green (D-TX)
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN)
Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR)
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA)
Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL)
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)
Additionally, presidential hopeful Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will be skipping the address, The Daily Wire reported Tuesday. The radical senator will, instead, be campaigning in New Hampshire.
However, Sanders will apparently have time to give a rebuttal to President Trump’s address.
“After much deliberation, I have decided that I will not use my presence at a state ceremony to normalize Trump’s lawless conduct & subversion of the Constitution,” fellow squad member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Tuesday.
“None of this is normal, and I will not legitimize it. Consequently, I will not be attending the State of the Union,” the congresswoman continued.
“This is a deeply personal decision for each member to make, and a choice I did not take lightly. I will be hopping on Instagram Live later this evening to connect with my constituents and follow up with their questions about #SOTU,” AOC added.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), also a squad member, posted Tuesday: “The State of the Union is hurting because of the occupant of the White House, who consistently demonstrates contempt for the American people, contempt for Congress & contempt for our constitution. I cannot in good conscience attend tonight’s sham.”

The SOTU address comes the day before the seeming acquittal of President Trump in the Senate. As reported by The Daily Wire on Tuesday morning, Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski crushed Democrats’ hopes when she announced that she will vote to acquit Trump on Wednesday.
