Trump: I’d Rather Run Against Bloomberg, He’s ‘Buying His Way In’

Now that former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is starting to see a surge, President Trump is taking aim at the potential 2020 candidate.
Speaking in the Oval Office on Tuesday, President Trump said that he would rather face-off against Bloomberg in the general election than Bernie Sanders while scolding the former mayor for “buying his way in.”
“Frankly, I would rather run against Bloomberg than Bernie Sanders, because Sanders has real followers, whether you like them or not, whether you agree with them or not — I happen to think it’s terrible what [Sanders] says,” said Trump, as reported by Politico.
“Bloomberg is just buying his way in,” he added.
The charge that Bloomberg is buying the nomination has some merit, considering that he has skipped the early primary voting states by pouring millions upon millions of dollars into the Super Tuesday states, hoping to shore up the nomination in one fell swoop rather than a long a march. Thus far, he has not even appeared in a single Democratic Party presidential debate, though that could change as early as next week due to Democratic National Committee’s sudden decision to eliminate its grassroots fundraising requirements.
Should Bloomberg finally make an appearance, President Trump says that the former mayor will sink, calling him “one of the worst debaters I’ve ever seen.”
“His presence is zero. He will spend his three, four, $500 million,” said Trump. “We will find out what happens.”
Trump also blasted Bloomberg for suddenly apologizing for his support of stop-and-frisk, calling it “disingenuous.”
“I support anything that we can do to get down crime and get rid of drugs,” Trump told reporters. “I think when a man is with stop-and-frisk his whole life, and then he decides to go Democrat, and he goes to a church, and he is practically crying — he looked like hell — he is practically crying, saying what a horrible thing he did. I think that’s so disingenuous.”
“When you watch — go back to the church where he apologized for everything he ever did, practically,” he continued. “And he looked pathetic. Our country doesn’t need that kind of leadership.”
On Tuesday, Bloomberg took a huge hit on social media when leaked audio revealed this series of statements:
“95% of your murders – murderers and murder victims fit one M.O. You can just take the description, Xerox it and pass it out to all the cops,” Bloomberg said in the audio. “They are male, minorities, 16-25. That’s true in New York, that’s true in virtually every city and that’s where the real crime is. You’ve got to get the guns out of the hands of the people that are getting killed. You want to spend the money on a lot of cops in the streets. Put those cops where the crime is, which means in minority neighborhoods.”
“So, one of the unintended consequences is people say, ‘oh my God, you are arresting kids for marijuana that are all minorities.’ Yes, that’s true. Why? Because we put all the cops in the minority neighborhoods,” Bloomberg continued. “Yes, that’s true. Why do we do it? Because that’s where all the crime is. And the way you get the guns out of the kids’ hands is to throw them up against the walls and frisk them. And then they start say[ing], ‘Oh I don’t want to get caught.’ So they don’t bring the gun. They still have a gun, but they leave it at home.”
