89-year-old pizza delivery driver brought to tears with $12,000 tip (10 Pics)
By the time we reach our elderly years, like 89-year-old Derlin Newey, I’m sure many of us expect to be enjoying retirement. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case for Newey who is spending his later years as a pizza delivery driver in an effort to make ends meet…
But that hasn’t stopped him from spreading a smile along the way. In fact, Newey’s infectious positivity and wholesome conversations inspired a loyal customer to do something so generous that it brought the old man to tears.
TikTok user Carlos Valdez recently started a fundraiser with hopes of helping Newey afford his monthly bills. After sharing multiple videos of their interactions, Valdez and his audience were able to raise an astounding $12,000 for Mr. Derlin Newey – and the reaction on his face when he received the generous gift made the whole thing worth it.
When presenting the lump sum, Valdez said to Newey:
“We collectively collected a gift for you, and I’m here to deliver that gift to you on behalf of the TikTok community.”
Footage from local news station KSL shows Newey reduced to tears when he realized what was happening.
“How do I ever say thank you? I don’t know what to say.”

Valdez later told KSL News, ”This couldn’t have gone any better. He needed this. I’m just glad we could help him. We just need to treat people with kindness and respect – the way he does. He stole our hearts”.
On top of the $12,000, Valdez also gave Newey a t-shirt featuring a cartoon caricature of him delivering pizzas and spreading joy.
