Family pleads for help locating North Carolina father, 32, missing for six weeks after saying he was going to take a shower and leaving behind his shoes

A North Carolina father of three went missing six weeks ago, and his family is desperate for help in finding him.

On September 3 at about 2 p.m., Cory Dale Moore, 32, was at the house where his grandmother and mother live in Sanford. He said he was going to take a shower.

When his mother checked on him soon after, Moore was gone. He had disappeared without a word, taking his wallet and cellphone but leaving behind his shoes, according to Dateline.

He did not have a car, and Sherri Galvin, Moore's aunt, believes he left on foot.

'It just doesn't make any sense,' she told the NBC program. 'He's never just walked off. And he's always stayed in contact with his kids, his sister, his mom, me - someone.'

Moore has twin sons, 4, and a daughter, 3, Galvin said.

'He loves those kids,' Sherri said. 'He wanted so badly to be a good dad.'

Six weeks after the man's disappearance, relatives and authorities are still looking for any trace of Moore.

Cory Dale Moore had experienced a rough couple years before moving in with family in June 2020, family said. Still, they are dumbfounded by his disappearance.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office sent out search teams, cadaver dogs and drones. A relative told WRAL News crews searched for Moore for four weeks, but could not locate him.

The past few years had been rough on Moore, so in June 2020 he moved in with his sister in Mooresville, according to Dateline. He worked nearby for a natural gas company.

Galvin saw her nephew at his sister's wedding in August.

'I just remember Cory was once again his kind, fun-loving self. He was happy,' she said.

After his sister went on her honeymoon, Moore moved to the house in Sanford where his mother and grandmother live.

And then on September 3, he vanished. Since then, Galvin told Dateline, Moore's bank account and social media accounts showed no activity.

He last updated his Facebook page August 10 with a photo of six guys in hats and sunglasses, holding a big fish on a dock, all smiles.

Galvin suggests Moore is at least not entirely to blame for his own disappearance.

'We want the people responsible to see this everywhere they look,' she wrote Tuesday in a Facebook post asking people to switch their profile picture to one with Moore's picture and a hotline number. 'We want them to feel the shame and the long reaching effects of their cowardly actions every time they log on.'

Galvin told Dateline her nephew had struggled recently and sometimes found himself in bad situations.

'But he didn't deserve this,' she said. 'He was turning his life around and deserved a second chance.'

Moore stands 6'0' and weighs about 210 pounds. His brown hair has a patch of white on the rear left side of his head.

Tattoos include mallard duck heads on both biceps, blue stars behind his ears, and 'Moore' on his left forearm.

At the time of his disappearance, Moore had a light brown beard. He was wearing a white tank top and gray shorts. He was barefoot.
