Ina Garten sparks furious debate over how she loads her DISHWASHER, as she leaves critics horrified by putting 'everything' in there - including sharp knives, pans, and wooden tools

Ina Garten sparked a furious debate about proper dishwasher-loading protocol after admitting that she puts 'everything' in the machine to clean.

The 72-year-old chef shared a photo of the contents of her dishwasher on October 3, revealing sparkling clean and sparingly-packed flatware, silverware, and even cookware.

When followers expressed surprise that she doesn't wash some of the items by hand, the Barefoot Contessa insisted that she puts everything — including knives — in for the wash — which led to even more gasps from commenters.

Ina showed off her neatly-filled dishwasher on Saturday to gripe about what a chore it is to unload it.

'Verified If you’re not sick of unloading the dishwasher, could you please come unload mine??' she captioned the image.

Her dishwasher didn't look too full, with the photo showing a bottom rack with plates, bowls, a roasting pan, measuring cups, spoons, forks, and knives.

On top, the edge of a mug and a saucepan lid are visible.

'I can not believe what I'm seeing!' one commenter wrote. 'Knives and all clad in there! I thought that was a big no no!'

'Ooooo. Knives in the dishwasher! Doesn't that damage them?' asked another concerned commenter.

'EVERYTHING goes in the dishwasher!!' Ina answered. 'My assistant used to put the bird cage in the dishwasher (she took the bird out first).

Still skeptical, another commenter asked if that included cast iron pans.

'Oops!' Ina replied. 'Not cast iron pans!'

Others were surprised to see wooden spoons in the machine, with one commenter saying she's 'say no to wooden cutting boards as the prolonged exposure to heat and water cause them to warp.'

Ina agreed on that count, but promised that knives were OK: 'I do it many times a day and some of them are 40 years old!'

The chef also admitted that she's even run dishes twice to get out of unloading them.

'I've been known to run the dishwasher, then put more dishes in with the clean ones and just run it again,' she said.

Not all the experts agree with Ina's methods.

Lucinda Ottusch, dishwasher expert at Whirlpool Corporation’s Institute of Home Sciences, told Today in 2017 that dishwashers can dull knife blades, so sharp ones are best washed by hand.

She also recommended hand-washing nonstick pots and pans, cast iron, china with metallic decoration, hand-painted ceramics and stoneware, crystal, milk glass, pressure cooker lids, aluminum cookware, wood, travel drinkware, and printed measuring cups.

At the beginning of the pandemic in the US, Ina delighted social media users with her cosmopolitan cocktail recipe.

'It’s always cocktail hour in a crisis!' she captioned the video.

'During these stressful times, it's really important to keep traditions alive. My favorite tradition is the cocktail hour, so I'm gonna make you my favorite Cosmopolitan,' she says in the clip.

'So you need a big pitcher, because I like to make a lot of Cosmos. You never know who's gonna stop by,' she says. 'Wait a minute, nobody's stopping by!'

She says to pour in two cups of Belvedere vodka, but empties an entire bottle into her pitcher.

She then demonstrates adding one cup of Cointreau, one cup of Ocean Spray cranberry juice cocktail, and a half a cup of freshly-squeezed lime juice.

Mix it up: She said to shake the cocktail for 30 seconds
Yum! She then poured it into an enormous glass

'I mean, how easy is this?' she says.

She then pulls out an enormous cocktail shaker, already half filled with ice, and pours the mixture in to shake it up.

'You have to shake it for 30 seconds,' she says. 'You have lots of time, it's not a problem.'

Ina then brings out a huge martini glass — a novelty item that's much bigger than any normal martini glass.

'I would say, in these times, this is really important,' she says.

Finally, ready to drink, she lifts up the heavy glass with both hands and tells viewers: 'Stay safe, have a very good time, and don't forget the cocktails.'
