Man legally changes gender 'so he can get cheaper car insurance as woman' (3 Pics)

A man claims he has legally changed his gender in bizarre loophole to get cheaper car insurance.

The 24-year-old, who has not been named, said he was shocked when he was told his parking tickets and driving record, meant his car insurance quote came in at more than £4,500.

When he enquired how much a woman would have to pay, he heard it would be £1,100 less.

So the man hatched a plan, which means on paper he is a woman.

He gained a letter from his doctor, filled in an application form and was sent his new female birth certificate.

Speaking to CBC in Canada he said: "I was quite shocked, but I was also relieved. I felt like I beat the system. I felt like I won."

He admitted: "I did it for cheaper car insurance."

Members of the trans community in Canada have spoken out about the money-saving scheme.

.According to the Daily Mail , Marie Little, a former chair of the Trans Alliance Society said: "I think it cheapens the whole process. It sort of casts doubt on everybody else's motives for making those changes.

"I think it gives ammunition to people who want to take rights away from trans people."

An elected official in Alberta tweeted last week that the man has committed perjury punishable in Canada by up to 14 years in prison.
