Activist Alyssa Milano’s tearful video explains how 3-year-old helped #MeToo: ‘I got scared for you

Actress and #MeToo activist Alyssa Milano released an emotional video on Monday, explaining that she recorded the video one year ago to explain to her daughter why she publicly shared her story of sexual assault.

What’s in the video?

In the video, Milano directs the video message to her daughter, Elizabella.
Milano captioned the video, “One year ago I recorded this for my daughter, explaining why I shared my story of sexual assault. I never expected to release it publicly. Now, I feel it’s too important not to share. #MeToo.”
“Dear Elizabella,” she continued. “I love you so. I will fight so you don’t have to. Love, mama.”
Milano went on to outline her future hopes for her young daughter.
“When you get older and you watch this video, I wanted you to know that one night when I was lying in bed with you I looked down at you, and your sweet beautiful face,” Milano said, fighting back tears.
Milano explained that her fear motivated her to speak out, share her personal story of sexual assault on social media, and use the now-common hashtag, #MeToo.
“I got really scared,” said Milano, who helped popularize the term “me too.” “I got scared for you. I sent out a tweet asking for women to stand in solidarity and a lot of people replied.
“In a way,” the actress added, “I wanted to make this video for you because in a way, all of this is because of you. Because you gave mama the strength.”
Milano issued a promise to her daughter to continue working hard to ensure different circumstances for future generations.
“I want you to know that also I’m working very hard — a lot of women are working very hard — to make sure that silence is not the norm for your generation,” Milano added, as she wiped her eyes and nose throughout the video.
“My biggest hope for you is that you never have to say ‘me too,’” the actress added. “But if you do, God forbid, if you do have to ever say ‘me too,’ I want you to know that you will be heard.”
