Ana Navarro’s Latest Tweet Was So Wrong, Even Trump Haters Are Calling Her Out

The desperation of the Trump Derangement Syndrome crowd is showing.
Now that the hope has been destroyed that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of “collusion” between President Donald Trump’s 2016 and the Russian government have all but vanished, Trump opponents are turning to vintage tropes to attack the president, even if it requires making up lies about what Trump has actually said.
That was the route taken by CNN pet Republican (and virulent anti-Trumper) Ana Navarro in a Twitter post this weekend, but she went too far even for some in the anti-Trump crowd.
Navarro’s Twitter post was published Saturday, with a picture of a Nicaraguan boy being comforted at the Mexico-American border by Univision journalist Tifani Roberts. In it, Navarro reprised the left’s calumny that Trump had called all illegal immigrants “animals.”
This is journalist, @TifaniRoberts comforting a small boy on the border. He was shot in the throat by Ortega’s thugs in Nicaragua. This little boy is seeking asylum in the United States. His name is William. Trump calls him “animal”.

This isn’t new ground, of course. The video clip and quote from Trump was taken from a May 2018 White House event that included local elected and law enforcement officials from California who have seen firsthand the wreckage that criminal illegal aliens have caused in the Golden State.
As part of one exchange, Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said California state laws were making hard to deport criminal illegal aliens.
She said that puts local law enforcement in a bad position because of limits on information California allows to be shared with the federal government.
And that helps criminals, like members of the notorious MS-13 gang, escape being sent out of the country.

“There could be an MS-13 member I know about – if they don’t reach a certain threshold, I can’t tell ICE about it,” she said, according to a White House transcript of the event.
That’s when Trump referred to illegal aliens as “animals,” clearly in the context of Mims’ question about the deportation of dangerous criminals, and clearly not in the context of harmless boys like the one whose picture Navarro included in her tweet.
“We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in — and we’re stopping a lot of them — but we’re taking people out of the country. You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals,” Trump said.
“And we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before. And because of the weak laws, they come in fast, we get them, we release them, we get them again, we bring them out. It’s crazy.”
If Navarro thought she could get away with that kind of digital sleight of hand, though, plenty of Twitter users were on hand to disabuse her of that.
Naturally, there were hundreds of Trump fans who pounced on Navarro’s dishonesty, but there were also quite a few men and women who have no love for the man in the Oval Office but apparently dislike blatant lies even less.
Stop Ana.Trump is crass but he never referred to children as animals. His animal comment was in reference to MS-13 members coming to the US. Stop your hate & report accurately. If there is 1 thing he has shown is empathy for children see Syrian air strike after they were gassed.
Again I'm not a huge Donald Trump fan, but if the media is attempting to gain the trust of the people back, this isn't the best way to do so. This video is a year old, it wasnt hidden from sight, and no one took issue with it then. Why? Because he was referring to gangsters
Even some groups Democrats would probably assume are on the side of immigrants weren’t necessarily buying what Navarro was selling in this tweet.
As a wife of an immigrant I am very resentful of all amount of time and money spent on immigration while people from the Southern border drift in and just SAY they are persecuted and released into the US never to be seen at their court hearings
The sad fact is that journalism as practiced in the Trump administration simply isn’t about reporting facts.
Even if Navarro isn’t, strictly speaking, a journalist, she is employed by a network that has long since abandoned the journalistic ideal of adherence to truth in favor of pushing a progressive “narrative.”
It requires a weird, “Alice in Wonderland” kind of suspension of disbelief where reality isn’t what actually happened, or what the president actually said on any given subject.
It’s what liberals need it to mean for their political purposes.
“When I use a word it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less,” as Humpty Dumpty put it.
Navarro’s disconnection with reality was on full display in January, when she belittled conservative commentator Steve Cortes on “CNN Prime Time” by filing her nails while Cortes talked about the crimes committed by illegal aliens.
CNN's Ana Navarro pulls out her nail file in annoyance and starts filing her nails as Steve Cortes tries to talk about crimes committed by illegal aliens against American citizens
CNN talking heads like Navarro approach their coverage of the Trump administration with the same idea as Humpty Dumpty’s approach to diction — what the president actually says is only what they choose it to mean.

Fortunately, there are too many social media users out there who know better – and can see the desperation of the Trump Derangement Syndrome crowd for what it really is.
