Tim Allen Announces Season 8 of ‘Last Man Standing’ with Hilarious Jab at Mueller Report
It’s safe to say that the Mueller report has dominated the news over the past week — if not the entire month. The findings of special counsel Robert Mueller finally debunked endless claims that the president colluded with Russia, but the media has talked about little else since the news broke.
There are probably a few Americans who are tired of hearing about the story and ready to move on to something a little less serious. If you’re one of them, Tim Allen has the perfect remedy: Some family-friendly comedy from his alter-ego, Mike Baxter.
“Forget Mueller the real news is Mike Baxter is back!” the well-known comedian posted to Twitter on Thursday. “Oh yea and the rest of the family too,” he added. “Season 8 coming up.”

Baxter is, of course, Allen’s fictional yet suspiciously similar character on “Last Man Standing,” the sitcom that was inexplicably dropped by ABC before being picked up by Fox. That network change proved to be a smart choice by Fox, and the show has thrived at its new home. The comedy series about Allen’s manly character struggling to deal with a house full of women is set to reach its 150th episode soon.
“Hard to believe ‘Last Man Standing’ hits 150 episodes this week and it gets better with another upcoming season at FOX!” the former “Home Improvement” star said in a different statement. “Great news for all of us who are creating these stories and working our pants off to make you all laugh.”
Allen, who is also famous as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story,” was quick to credit the viewers for “Last Man Standing’s” continued success.
“It’s another big high-five to the legions of loyal fans who have faithfully kept us front and center and huge on the radar. Thanks to our family at FOX who continue to make us feel so at home,” he said. “Man, if we keep this up, they might have to call our show: ‘Last Man Unable to Stand.’”
But while the show is currently dominating Friday night television, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the series. In 2017, ABC announced that they would be ending the show, despite it having consistently solid ratings.
Many people — including Allen — wondered if the show’s conservative angle had something to do with its cancellation. After all, Allen plays a gun-owning, Trump-supporting father who shares the actor’s Republican leanings.
“What I find odd in Hollywood is they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully,” Allen pointed out in 2016 to Megyn Kelly. (Hey, remember her?)
“But if you had any kind of inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that. It gets a little hypocritical,” he continued, calling out the strong liberal bias in Tinseltown.
More recently, Allen hinted that Hollywood was blacklisting conservative stars during an appearance on the decidedly liberal “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
“You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody else believes. This is like ’30s Germany,” Allen said, perhaps only half-joking.
Yet for “Last Man Standing,” taking a frequently conservative stance while keeping people laughing seems to be working. The show itself is still standing and will hopefully continue to resonate with America.
