Eric Swalwell’s Pearl Harbor and Mueller Report Comparison Was So Bad, the USS Arizona Memorial Issued a Response
Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell has been one of the outspoken proponents of the now-debunked Trump/Russia collusion narrative and has continued to press that narrative after special counsel Robert Mueller’s two-year probe exposed it as false.
Despite Mueller’s report making it clear that no Americans whatsoever, least of all President Donald Trump or associates of his 2016 campaign, colluded, conspired or coordinated with the Russian government to “steal” the 2016 election, Swalwell has refused to drop the issue that he has spent the past two years hollering about to any who would listen.
Swalwell has become so consumed with his belief that Trump was working in cahoots with the Russians, the California representative has gone so far as to call Trump “treasonous” and a “traitor,” and has compared Russia’s attempts to meddle in U.S. elections to an act of war.
That sort of rhetoric earned Swalwell a sharp rebuke from a Twitter account associated with a World War II memorial.
In a recent tweet, the congressman seemed to suggest that what Russia did — which had no discernible impact on the election — was on par with two extraordinary attacks upon the United States that left thousands of Americans dead: the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in WWII and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In taking issue with reports that President Trump talked with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the Mueller report was released, Swalwell tweeted, “Remember that time Pearl Harbor was bombed and FDR called the Emperor of Japan? Or the time the Twin Towers were struck and Bush ringed Osama Bin Laden? No? I don’t either. So why’d @realDonaldTrump call Putin after the Mueller Report was released? #CommanderInCheat”
Needless to say, that atrocious remark from the Trump-hating Democratic congressman didn’t go over well, as was evidenced by the plethora of critical replies in the comments to his post.
Arguably the sharpest, and rather unexpected, reply to Swalwell’s idiotic comparison came from the Twitter account associated with the memorial for the USS Arizona, an American Battleship sunk in the surprise attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in 1941 that compelled the U.S. to enter the global war against fascist imperialism.
The USS Arizona account tweeted, “We are dismayed at the lack sensitivity to those lives lost on December 7, 1941 by a candidate for president. These attacks that caused thousands of deaths have no place in this type of political discourse.”

Swalwell’s ludicrous comparison did indeed “lack sensitivity,” not just for the military service members and civilians who lost their lives in the surprise attack from the Japanese, but also the thousands of innocent lives lost in the 9/11 attacks — not to mention all the additional lives those two fateful events forever impacted.
As the USS Arizona Twitter account duly noted, Swalwell is a candidate for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2020 — though he is far from being a top-tier hopeful.
The also-ran is largely running on a platform of strict gun control with plans to impose wholesale bans on commonly used semi-automatic firearms, including the AR-15.
Swalwell has asserted that any gun owners who refuse to comply with his confiscatory schemes would face prosecution and imprisonment.
It’s a stance that seems to coincide with an earlier “joke” he made about using nuclear weapons to go after gun owners who refuse to turn banned weapons over to the government.
Between his gun-control schemes and his persistence in pushing the disproven Russian collusion narrative, Swalwell has shown he does not hold the values of millions of Americans who respect the Constitution and love our country.
With his tweet comparing Russian election meddling to deadly attacks that sparked two global wars — WWII and the current war on terror — he has also proven that he is tone-deaf as well.
