Gun-Grabbing Author Volsky Uses El Paso Shooting To Push Impossible Fire-Rate Claim

It’s almost inevitable.
In the wake of a tragedy befalling their fellow Americans, gun grabbers can barely restrain themselves from using an incident of mass killing to drum up more reasons to curtail constitutionally protect rights.
But a Twitter post published by an anti-gun activist after Saturday’s mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, was almost too absurd to believe.
The post came from Igor Volsky, author of the anti-gun book “Guns Down” and director of the anti-Second Amendment group Guns Down America.
And it showed just how little some people who want to regulate guns actually know about firearms.
“Assault weapons are particularly dangerous because they can fire 300-500 rounds per minute (the rate of fire is almost the same as an M-16.),” Volsky wrote.
“You can empty a 30-round magazine in about 5 seconds.”
To say the tweet was exaggerating would be putting it mildly.
Other Twitter users wasted no time pointing out the problem.
A semi-automatic weapon fires once per trigger pull. Not even professional competition shooters can fire that fast. At 500 rounds per minute a shooter would have to depress the trigger 8 times per second. That doesn't even factor in mag changes. You're spreading lies.

professional shooters can’t even fire 300-500 rounds per minute. Clearly you’ve never touched a gun in your life.

300 trigger pulls, 10 mag dumps and 10 reloads in a minute huh. Please anti-gunner continue to tell us all that works.

Technical ignorance aside, the saddest part of this is that using a tragedy to push a political agenda is standard operating procedure for the gun-grabbing left.
Whether it’s the Parkland, Florida, shooting from February 2018, El Paso in 2019 or any other scene of tragedy, anti-gun activists are trying to score points before the sound of the firing has even died down.
Sometimes, as in Volsky’s tweet on Saturday, they show they know little or care much about how guns actually work.

And every time, they show they care even less about the United States Constitution.
