They do just enough to keep you from rioting & implement change. To keep you paying your taxes. To then bailout banks Wall Street, large corporations, & all the endless wars. 3 to 6 months of your salary pays for that. But when it comes time for helping our fellow Americans our government says, go fuck yourself.
