Texas infant is shot dead by 'his 3-year-old brother' while FOUR adults were in the apartment

Police believe an infant was fatally shot Friday by his 3-year-old brother after the older boy got hold of a gun inside a Houston apartment.

The infant was shot in his abdomen Friday morning, said Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Wendy Baimbridge.

The 8-month-old boy was driven by adults who were in the apartment to a hospital, where he died. She said there were four adults inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.

Police officers were called by Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, Baimbridge said. None of the adults inside the apartment called 911.

Investigators initially were not able to locate the gun used in the shooting but found it later inside the vehicle that family members had used to take the infant to the hospital.

Video from KPRC-TV shows a woman crying as she stands outside of crime scene tape at the Waterford Grove apartment complex in the 3100 block of Crestdale Drive near Kempwood.

Footage from KTRK-TV shows the infant's older brother still in his Spider Man costume while sitting outside with an adult.

The family was not named by police.

The incident happened in a second-floor bedroom at the apartment complex.

'It was just one gunshot wound to the abdomen and unfortunately our little one is deceased,' Baimbridge said.

'I just want to take this moment and plead with parents and guardians all over to not allow your firearms to be accessible to anyone in the house. Lock them up. There are things that you can do to render that weapon safe.'

She added: 'Please pray for this family. This is just a tragic event.'

Investigators and prosecutors are still determining if any charges will be filed in the case, Baimbridge said.

Homicide detectives were investigating at the hospital and at the home, she said.
